The characteristics of acidic soil are as follows:
(1) Soil acidity or pH will be less than 7.
(2) Microorganism activity in soil decreases with an increase in acidity.
(3) Excess iron, aluminum, and manganese can cause toxicity in soil solutions.
(4) A deficiency of alkaline elements such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, etc., is seen.
(5) The availability of phosphorus, cobalt, and zinc is reduced in these soils.
(6) Organic matter applied to soil does not decompose easily.
(7) Increases the availability of secondary elements like boron, zinc, copper, etc., in the soil.
(8) Nitrogen loss is reduced in acidic soils.
(9) Field crops cannot be cultivated without applying lime to this soil.
(10) The activity of soil microorganisms, especially bacteria, is reduced.
(11) Acid-loving crops such as tea, coffee, pineapple, and lemon fruits grow well in this soil.
